It is possible now to password protect folders and files in Windows Xp. This is built into Xp as long as your system was built using the NT filing system (NTFS) all newer computers using Windows Xp will have this (all computers that I have built have this). It is simple to protect your folders and files in windows Xp as all you will be doing is creating a zipped (compressed) folder and adding a password.
How to Protect your Files and Folders
First of all you need to create a zipped (compressed) folder. Here's how...
- Right click on a folder with files in it
- Hover over send to
- Select Compressed (zipped) Folder
- Open your zipped folder
- Select File from the top menu
- Select Add Password...
- The rest is easy peezy, as to open any file contained in your zipped folder will require this password to open it !
- If you want to you can remove the folder password or simply click and drag the files out of the zipped folder.
Protect Folder and Files in Windows 98 and ME
If you are using earlier versions of windows such as Win 98/Me, you will need to acquire extra software to protect your folder and files. There are some FREEWARE packages around which will help with this.
I will take a look around and see if I can get a hold of some freeware programs and publish them in my download section...
