Start RC Model Flying
Monday, 31 December 2007

My interest in RC model aircraft flying has been rekindled lately, so now that I have a personal website I have decided to gather all the information I can find and put here in one place where you can take advantage of a single resource for all your RC modelling needs...

A Ducted Fan Jet from GreatModelDeals, great website!

Find and Join an RC Model Aircraft Flying Club

If you want start flying RC model aircraft then you should find and join a club, I have written another article where I have found all the available model flying clubs in the UK. Check out the eLibrary index or use the website search using "RC model flying clubs" in the search.

A family Community

You will find it very difficult and expensive to try and learn to fly any type of model aircraft on your own. (I know because that's exactly what I did!)

Join a Flying Club

Joining a club will enhance your chances of learning quickly. You will find that people at clubs are willing to teach you and are usually a friendly bunch all with the same interest, model flying!

You will get all the benefits of a model flying club community like participating in flying competitions, displays and the like where you can show off your latest creation and your flying skills as you get better at it!

BMFA Flying Insurance

Although insurance is not strictly a legal requirement you would be mad not to have it when flying model aircraft. You will be unable to join a club without this insurance as I think all will insist that you have it. You will find that the insurance is not at all expensive (£28 year) + your club fees.

This doesn't cover your broken model but does insure you against damage to other people and property. No amount of money can compensate for a loved one, but at least some legal problems could be overcome.

It's not as difficult as you may think to find such specialised insurance cover. By joining the BMFA (British Model Flying Association) and renewing your annual subscription automatically gives you the necessary cover you need.
